Ground Penetrating Radar Systems was recently contacted to locate reinforcing steel and conduits in an elevated slab on the 11th floor at 1221 Main St. in Columbia, SC. The equipment used in the scan was a 1600MHz antenna capable of identifying objects at a depth of 8-12 inches, and a SIR-3000 computer system.
While on site, GPRS technician James Ross, scanned multiple locations to identify any anomalies in the slab that would indicate post tension cable and/or conduits moving through the drillers anticipated core location. After further investigation at the suspected site we were able to determine that there was reinforcing steel running through the site that the drillers had initially planned to core. Not only could we identify the obstructions, move their cores to safer location, but we also provided accurate depths of each obstruction.
In the pictures below you can see our typical mark up of our findings in concrete slabs.
