Locating Conduit in Concrete Prior to Installation of HVAC System - Buffalo, NY
An electrical contracting company in the Buffalo, NY area was completing a project at an elementary school which required the installation of a new HVAC system. Part of the remodeling project called for the installation of several new pipes into a concrete floor at several locations of the project. For the new routing, the contractor needed to cut through the floor; all while avoiding any conduits and pipes present within the areas of concern.
The contractor working at this the project had used ground penetrating radar on previous projects and were well aware that a GPR scan would save them time, and reduce the chance of costly mistakes, such as damaging subsurface utilities while completing the project. Therefore, the contractor decided to call the premier concrete imaging company in the country: Ground Penetrating Radar Systems, Inc. to complete the survey.
GPRS Project Manager, Jim Bell of our Upstate, New York office, which focuses on the Buffalo, Rochester, Syracuse, Binghamton, Corning/Elmira, and Albany markets, mobilized to the site and was able to quickly detect and mark out all of the lines running through the areas where the contractor had planned to cut into the concrete. GPRS was able to complete this project in real time, and the customer did not have to worry about the radiation concerns that come along with using x-ray scans. Ground Penetrating Radar Systems has the ability to locate and map out rebar, post-tension, and conduit prior to saw cutting and trenching and we are able to mark these elements real time – as we complete the project.
The two pictures above depict several of the locations that was surveyed during this project.
