GPRS Concrete Imaging - Colorado Springs, CO

Ground Penetrating Radar Systems of Colorado Springs, Colorado was contacted to concrete imaging in a local office building. The structural slab contained a rebar matte that had to be avoided due to limited reinforcement when building was constructed. Project Manager Shawn Selmeski was assigned the project. Upon imaging the concrete, the rebar matte was able to be identified and marked out. GPRS’s typical protocol is to mark directly on the surface so if the drilling, or even the project is delayed there is no need for additional expenses of rescanning an area. Project Manager Shawn Selmeski was able to mark on the surface of the structure the amount of reinforcements in the slab to allow for holes to be drilled.

All GPRS technicians go through extensive training to ensure that the deliverable that the customer receives is a well laid out, easy to understand and valuable. Now that this area has been marked out, the engineer can bring in a concrete drill team to bore a hole in the concrete. This was one of several locations scanned for plumbing and electrical drill locations, to allow for a retrofit of a hospital floor.

Another benefit of GPR is there are no distance restrictions when in use. The use of X-Ray technology is very limited in many applications including hospitals due to the requirement to remove any physical interaction in a radius around the area because of the radioactive material in use.
