Underground Utility Locating Prior to Installing a Fueling Station - Vancouver, British Columbia
GPRS Enterprises Inc. of British Columbia was called by an underground storage tank and fuel station installation company to locate all of the underground utilities before the excavation process for a new project was started. Excavation was needed for a fueling station footprint and prior to trenching to an existing power transformer.
The site in question was at a high security site, and the loss of power, or damage to any utility at the site would have been a major cost, and loss of time to the client. GPRS started the scanning project by confirming the locations of the storm drain in the parking lot, and by locating any risers and/or visually exposed conduits to tone onto.
We then started to scan the area with ground penetrating radar for any obstructions, or passive utilities that could have interfered with excavation, High voltage power lines were found entering and exiting the area of the existing transformer, and these were clearly marked using paint and flags.
Power was going to be fed from this transformer to power a new fueling station that was being built, and we were very careful to isolate these important power lines from any other utilities in the area. Addition to the location of the utility lines, the depths of the power lines was also recorded and provided to the customer so that they could navigate the new proposed lines around the lines that were already in the ground.
