Ground Penetrating Radar Systems of Kansas City was contracted to locate underground power and communications lines at a truck stop. The contractor had been tasked with installing a new water line to the other side of the property. The GPRS technician was able identify several utilities including electric, communication, and gas lines that would be encountered by trenching and horizontal boring. Whether being tasked with installing a sign, trenching in a new utility, or excavating for a building expansion, locating utilities is something that must be done every time. Calling 811 is the law, but often overlooked is the private utilities. They are on nearly every site and the public locates do not cover these utilities. Ground Penetrating Radar Systems of Kansas City can handle the utility locating needs of St. Joseph, Lawrence and Topeka areas. Ground Penetrating Radar Systems was contracted to locate utilities in the footprint of a building expansion prior to excavation at a facility in the Kansas City area. The contractor was tasked with rerouting existing utilities before excavation for the expansion began. GPRS was able to accurately locate the utilities in the area including: site lighting, fiber, water, gas, and sewer lines. Because of the accurate locates, the scheduled rerouting of utilities did not cause a negative impact on the facility and excavation started as planned. GPRS was also able to locate the utilities outside of the excavation area and provided the facility with a record of the utilities.
GPRS’s methods and use of multiple utility locating technologies give piece of mind to contractors, property managers, and property owner when excavating, boring, or trenching. It cannot only save time and money during construction, it can also save a life. Most privately owned utilities are not well documented, if at all. GPRS helps to find the known and unknown lines that can affect your project.
