Ground Penetrating Radar Systems, Inc. - GPRS - of Arizona was contacted by large a local contractor to locate all post tension cable and electrical conduit within multiple levels of concrete slab in a high-rise office complex in Phoenix, Arizona.
The local contractor had difficulty determining where they could safely core drill into various locations on multiple stories of concrete slab for a tenant improvement project. It was not only imperative to find all reinforcements beyond post tension cable, such as rebar, but also electrical conduit that was believed to contain communication and electrical utilities.
Ground Penetrating Radar Systems, Inc. arrived on site and was able to tack this challenge. Additionally, GPRS had to respond with less than 24 hours’ notice and worked extended hours into the evening. This project required extensive attention and communication as plans were changed several times as some core-drill locations were no longer usable due to the presence of heavy cable and rebar within the concrete slab. The contractor was able to propose new locations on site in real time with GPRS ready to scan the new locations on demand.
Ground Penetrating Radar Systems used both ground penetrating radar to locate all post tension cable, rebar, and conduit. Ground Penetrating Radar Systems also used radio detection / signal induction technologies to assist in locating all conduit within the slab. This enabled the general contractor to safely know where to core drill into the concrete while eliminating costly repairs by avoiding breakages of any concrete beams, rebar, or conduit lines.
Ground penetrating Radar mapping is a great tool to scan areas of post tension cables, rebar, and conduits, including PVC pipes. Ground penetrating radar can also be used to locate underground utilities such as water, gas, electrical, communication, sewer, and other objects prior to digging or excavating.
