Private Utility Lines and Alligator Located at Airport in Orlando, FL

We recently completed a utility locate at a major airport. We scanned about a mile long stretch of road where a new utility line was going to be buried. We located dozens of utilities along the way; including many lines that the 811 locators had no record of. There was also an unexpected surprise upon opening a storm sewer. A seven foot gator sat 2 feet below, relaxing in the shade of the storm system, 20 yards from the lake that was probably his home. (shown in the picture below)

We notified the airport’s wildlife contact of the gator’s location, just to make sure he wouldn’t have trouble getting back to safety. The rest of the utility locate went without a hitch, and we completed the project about 20% under budget.
