GPRS of South Florida was contacted to locate utilities at the Miami International Airport. The contractor was installing new monitoring wells. GPRS was able to mobilize to the site and clear an area of 20’ x 20’ around each proposed well site. By partnering, GPR and a utility wand, the chances of damaging utilities are greatly reduced.
GPR which stands for ground penetrating radar was used to scan each area. A utility locating device called an RD8000, located any live power and communication lines in the drill zone. Ground penetrating radar can locate anomalies to a depth up to 8’-10’. The located utilities were marked on the surface with spray paint including depths. The contractor was able to move the wells to areas with no utilities present.
