GPRS Completes Structural Evaluation of Deteriorating Concrete with GPR - Colorado Springs, CO

Ground Penetrating Radar Systems of Colorado Springs, Colorado was contacted to complete a structural evaluation of the concrete of a local building around several columns that appeared to be deteriorating. Project Manager Shawn Selmeski was assigned to this the project. Upon initial visual inspection of the multiple columns in a parking structure, it was apparent that serious structural issues were taking place. To assist the engineer with their evaluation, GPRS was asked to locate the number of reinforcements in the areas around the columns. Also the reinforcement size and depth cover were in question. Project Manager Shawn Selmeski was able to mark on the surface of the structure the amount of reinforcements in the slab immediately surrounding the column. Also, the thickness of the slab was determinable to assist in the engineer’s investigation.

Structural Evaluation of Concrete - Colorado Springs, COAll GPRS technicians go through extensive training to ensure that the deliverables that the customer receives are well laid out, easy to understand and valuable. Now that this area surrounding the column has been marked out, the engineer can bring in a concrete drill team to bore a hole in the concrete and complete various pressure and structural tests. Noting the placement of the reinforcement allows the engineer to locate specific areas to drill that both contain reinforcement and are void of reinforcement.
