Utility Locating Prior to Soil Boring at Seneca College - Toronto, Ontario, Canada
GPRS Enterprises Inc. of Hamilton / Toronto was contacted by a local college to conduct a GPR scan. Our client needed to clear their project area for utility lines so that they could start the excavation process for soil borings. Soil boring was needed as the client was investigating the deterioration of a retaining wall. GPRS Project Manager Adrian Atkins was able to arrive at the site within 24 hours to several conduct passive sweeps of the drilling locations. After the initial GPR scan, a GPR grid scan was then performed in each area after all other unknowns had been eliminated.

Simply assuming that there are not any utility lines in an area can lead dangerous, time consuming and costly mistakes. Seneca College was able to save a great deal of time and money by making sure that they knew the location of the utility lines below the surface prior to soil boring. GPRS takes the time and effort necessary to make sure that even simple projects are completed. We make sure that nothing is left to chance.

This project took place in pouring rain, which made the survey more difficult with respect to marking and scanning of the wet asphalt surface. GPRS was sure to pick areas free of standing water, which could inhibit GPR depth if the water is heavy enough. A detailed hand sketch was provided to the client which gave them peace of mind and the confidence that their soiling boring project would be able to completed without any issues.
