Utility Locating Prior to Excavation – Coquitlam, British Columbia

GPRS Inc. of British Columbia was contacted by a grading/asphalt company who was looking to find all the utilities feeding residential houses along a city street prior to replacing the water main. The houses on the street were a mixture of older houses from the 70’s and new infills that were hooked to the utility network recently. The older houses were all on cast iron gas lines and water piping, and the new houses were hooked up via plastic/composite piping. GPRS was able to locate all utilities regardless of pipe material, or presence of tracer wires. Precise depths were also labeled next to each utility in order to provide more detail regarding the utilities before digging began.

Utility Locating with GPR - Coquitlam, British Columbia

The city plans and OneCall showed information for the older network of utilities, but did not contain info for the new infill hookups due to them being installed privately and not documented with the city. The accurate location of each private utility was crucial on this project in order to continue work in a safe and efficient manner. GPRS can be on site within 24 hours of a request in order to keep these important excavation projects running smoothly.
