GPRS Company’s 3D Laser Scanning Aids Award-Winning Airport Expansion

• AECOM, Suffolk Construction, and Luis Vidal + Architects needed accurate existing conditions documentation of multiple existing spaces inside the airport
• The contractor also needed precise as-built documentation of the new construction prior to sheetrock installation, to comply with Massport (Massachusetts Port Authority) regulations
• Many of the spaces that needed to be scanned were congested with MEP runs and other infrastructure
• All work had to be completed while the airport was in operation

• Existing Conditions utilized multiple 3D laser scanners, including the small and nimble Leica BLK360 laser scanner, to capture the required data
• The contractor was so impressed with our work on the initial project that they asked us back to scan additional spaces
• 3D Revit models were created using the scan data to allow for remote planning

• The accurate and comprehensive as-built data provided Boston Logan with a detailed record of the building’s current state before renovations were completed, and of the new construction
• Highly detailed, accurate digital measurements assisted with the safe and successful expansion of the structure
• The client and their subcontractors could reference this data as they completed their work, and it will be preserved for future O&M purposes
