3D Laser Scan Corporate Office HVAC and Mechanical Systems

With 3D laser scan data, the client can accurately verify the existing HVAC and mechanical equipment within the building without having to worry about positioning or measurement error. This helps them to design their new systems more accurately and efficiently.‍
3D scanning services were performed for a 10-story office building, capturing existing above-ceiling interstitial HVAC systems on each floor, as well as mechanical rooms, chiller rooms, air handling unit rooms and a basement tunnel connecting the utility area to the office building. Over 240,000 square foot of space was laser scanned to document the as-is conditions. The client was upgrading the HVAC system and GPRS developed a 3D model to aid the design process and reduce clashes.
With the 3D laser scan data collected by GPRS, the client could accurately verify the existing HVAC and mechanical equipment within the building.
Location: Toledo, Ohio Task: 3D scanning services were performed for a 10-story office building, capturing existing above-ceiling interstitial HVAC systems on each floor, as well as mechanical rooms, chiller rooms, air handling unit rooms and a basement tunnel connecting the utility area to the office building. Over 240,000 square foot of space was laser scanned to document the as-is conditions. The client was upgrading the HVAC system and GPRS developed a 3D model to aid the design process and reduce clashes. Challenge: With the site being an active office building, it was critical that the required lidar scanning data was obtained with minimal interruptions. Accuracy was important and the space was vast, they needed complete documentation to plan for system upgrades, including above the acoustic tile that was to remain in place. Solutions: Using the RTC360 and P40 Leica 3D laser scanners, GPRS Project Managers 3D laser scanned the interstitial and mechanical space in the evenings to avoid interrupting the office workday. A laser scanner mounted to a tripod was extended above the ceiling tiles to capture the interstitial space. With the 3D laser scan data, the client can accurately verify the existing HVAC and mechanical equipment within the building without having to worry about positioning or measurement error. This enables them to design their new systems more accurately and efficiently. Deliverable: GPRS delivered point cloud data in .rcs file format usable in Autodesk products (Revit, AutoCAD, Navisworks, etc.) so the client can align and overlay the point cloud to their existing 3D Revit model to verify the location of large format ductwork located in the interstitial space. GPRS also provided a 3D model of the mechanical rooms, chiller rooms, air handling unit rooms and basement tunnel. An LOD 100 model of the structural space and an LOD 300 of the MEP space was delivered to the client. Added Value: GPRS customizes deliverables for each client, so they are only paying for what they need. Also, upon completion of the HVAC system upgrade and prior to ceiling tiles being installed, GPRS will re-mobilize to the site to capture the new as-built conditions of the space for future reference.

New Tenant Requests Laser Scanning To Plan Store Layout

A GPRS Project Manager 3D laser scanned 4,000 s.f. of existing retail space to provide 2D CAD drawings, a 3D virtual tour, a colorized point cloud, and a 3D BIM model to a client who was renovating a 30-year-old location.
Capturing 4,000 s.f. of Retail Space for New Tenant's Redesign
GPRS 3D Laser Scanning Services provided 3D reality capture, 2D CAD drawings, point cloud, a 3D virtual tour, and BIM model to redesign a retail location for a new tenant in Austin, Texas.
An Austin-based maker of cowboy boots and western wear was moving retail locationsThe previous tenant had occupied the location for more than 30 years The new tenant desired 2D floor plans and a 3D BIM model for a virtual walkthrough of the propertyThe previous tenant still occupied the active storefront, so scanning had to be completed after hours to avoid business interruptions Utilizing a Leica P-Series laser scanner, the GPRS Project Manager completed 24 scans of the 4,000 s.f property in one eveningLaser scanning captured measurements and virtual tour data to help the new tenant plan the store layoutGPRS Mapping & Modeling Team provided the tenant with a colorized point cloud, architectural 2D floorplans, a 3D BIM model, and virtual tour of the property 3D laser scanning is the fastest way to capture existing building conditions, documenting every detail into a digital mapMeasurements and point cloud data is accurate within 2-4mm to allow for accurate 2D and 3D as-builts3D virtual walk throughs allow the tenant to view the site remotely to easily plan and implement floor layouts and merchandisingWhile the renovations were initially designed in Rhino, the client planned to export Rhino models into Revit for further refinement and documentation

Oil Tank 3D Laser Scan

For oil tank replacement, the true shape and condition of the tank can be critical for ensuring that the new design fits the existing conditions; reducing costly delays or rework.
GPRS provided terrestrial-based 3D laser scanning services for a 25' x 25' x 30' oil tank near Topeka, Kansas. The objective was to capture the existing conditions of the tank, piping, flanges, nozzles, structural steel, pipe supports, and grade.
3D laser scanning by GPRS for an oil tank replacement.
3D laser scanning by GPRS for an oil tank replacement. Case Study: Oil Tank 3D Laser Scan Location: Emporia, Kansas TASK: GPRS provided terrestrial-based 3D laser scanning services for a 25' x 25' x 30' oil tank near Topeka, Kansas. The objective was to capture the existing conditions of the tank, piping, flanges, nozzles, structural steel, pipe supports and grade. PROBLEM: The client was upgrading the oil tank and needed 3D laser scanning to plan for the removal and replacement. For tank replacement, the true shape and condition of the tank can be critical for ensuring that the new design fits the existing conditions; hence reducing costly delays or rework. All piping, nozzles and structural steel around the tank was reality-captured so the new tank could be designed with proper fit and without interruptions to the unit. SOLUTION: 3D laser scanning provides a way to quickly and accurately obtain the existing condition information. The exact dimensions of a tank can easily be determined to ensure that fabrications match the existing structure. In less than 5 hours on site, the GPRS Project Manager captured the as built conditions of the existing tank and nozzles. Once the point cloud was registered, GPRS Mapping & Modeling CAD technicians delivered the point cloud data for the client to incorporate into their design model. GPRS delivered Intensity Map Point Cloud files, RCS Files and PTG Files to the client. BENEFITS: GPRS uses Leica Laser scanners, which can also capture images to further enhance the collected data. These images, called TruViews, were provided to the client and offer factual record of the areas inspected. GPRS is an experienced 3D laser scanning company. Our knowledgeable Project Managers confidently scan complex jobs with extreme safety requirements. For this job, the technician used an intrinsically safe laser scanner, since any spark would cause an explosion for this particular tank farm. Delivering the point cloud data gives the client the ability to do clash detection for interferences, saving them time and money in the field. GPRS Intelligently Visualizes The Built World® for customers nationwide. What can we help you visualize? For 3D laser scanning services in Kansas, call GPRS.
