PROBLEM
- A neighborhood in California was experiencing water surfacing between its asphalt road and sidewalks.
- The issue was discovered early in the morning and spanned an area of approximately 300 Linear Feet.
- There was no evidence indicating a precise location for the leak
- If left untreated, the leak could erode soil under the road and sidewalk, contaminate the municipality’s drinking water supply, and lead to costly non-revenue water (NRW) loss
Solution
- GPRS responded rapidly to the location, and deployed acoustic leak detection and leak detection correlators to pinpoint the source of the underground leak
- The GPRS Project Manager collaborated with the repair crew, which was able to excavate only the area where the leak had been pinpointed
- Upon removing the asphalt, it was discovered that a service line had been slowly leaking until it finally broke off from the water main
Benefits
- The repair was made with minimal excavation, which reduced inconvenience to residents and the time it took to repair the road
- GPRS’ rapid deployment to the site and location of the leak prevented the costly and potentially dangerous consequences of leaving the leak unchecked
