Task
Confirm the accuracy of 811-registered utility locates, and locate and map an unregistered stormwater system.
PROBLEM
- Contractor needed to install deep well anodes along existing gas distribution line in neighborhood in San Pablo, California
- 811 registered utilities had been marked, but the client knew of a stormwater system in the area that had not been fully mapped
- The access points for that system were clogged, making investigation with a push-fed scope or remote-controlled crawler impossible
Solution
- GPRS Project Manager utilized ground penetrating radar to detect an anomaly near one of the access points to the stormwater system, allowing them to map the lines running through the intended trenching area
- Additional utilities not located by an 811-registered utility owner were also discovered and mapped
- Data was uploaded into SiteMap® for 24/7, secure access
Benefits
- The data GPRS collected helped ensure the contractor could excavate safely and without striking the neighborhood’s buried utilities
- The contractor and their team had 24/7, secure access to this data thanks to SiteMap® which allowed to stay on time, on budget, and safe
