Historic Cathedral Needs 3D Laser Scanning of Front Façade

With 3D laser scanning, the client avoided the costs of renting a lift, manually measuring the façade, and the potential of inaccurate and incomplete data.
This client needed to do some rehabilitation on a historic cathedral in Denver, Colorado. After experiencing 100 years of weather in Denver, the cathedral had damage to the exterior stonework. GPRS laser scanned the exterior front façade of the historic cathedral and provided the client with 2D drawings.
GPRS worked quickly to define the scope of work, document a proposal, provide 3D laser scanning services and deliver a 2D drawing for this project.
Case Study: Historic Cathedral Needs 3D Laser Scanning Of Front Façade Location: Denver, Colorado Task: This client needed to do some rehabilitation on a historic cathedral in Denver, Colorado. After experiencing 100 years of weather in Denver, the cathedral had damage to the exterior stonework. GPRS laser scanned the exterior front façade of the historic cathedral and provided the client with 2D drawings. Problem: Prior to beginning work, the client needed accurate drawings to document the locations of stonework that needed maintenance. The client was pressed for time and needed an immediate turnaround for 3D laser scanning services and a 2D drawing. They also had a minimal budget for this project. Solution: GPRS worked quickly to define the scope of work, document a proposal, provide 3D laser scanning services and deliver a 2D drawing for this project. The Project Manager was able to scan the exterior façade within a few hours. GPRS quickly captured the entire front facade from the ground without the need for a lift. The Leica C10 laser scanner was used, whose range exceeds 900 feet and possesses accuracy that is sub-centimeter, making 3D laser scanning a perfect option. GPRS supplied the client with 2D elevations of the plotted point cloud so they could document the exterior stone damage while on site. Benefits: The client avoided the costs of renting a lift, manually measuring the facade and the potential of inaccurate or incomplete data. GPRS offers an extensive team of laser scanning professionals, including Engineers and Architects, to provide a deliverable that is accurate, cost-efficient and timely. Using 3D Laser Scanning For Facility Design Modification

When plant engineers at a pet food packaging facility needed to make modifications, they asked GPRS 3D Laser Scanning to provide as built documentation and a 3D model to plan retrofits to the existing structure. The project site consisted of 140,000 sq. ft. of interior space. Approximately 100,000 sq. ft. of this was single-story warehouse space, consisting of a central palletizer, semi- truck loading bays and temporary material storage. The remaining 40,000 sq. ft. contained 7 levels of elevated platforms containing product packaging equipment. TruePoint captured all architectural and structural features, equipment, conduit and piping.
Transforming a pet food facility with GPRS 3D Laser Scanning. Detailed documentation & 3D models streamline retrofit planning. Covering 140k sq.ft., including warehouses & elevated platforms.
CASE STUDY LOCATION Bowling Green, Kentucky TASK: When plant engineers at a pet food packaging facility needed to make modifications, they asked TruePoint Laser Scanning to provide as built documentation and a 3D model to plan retrofits to the existing structure. PROBLEM SOLUTION BENEFITS n By using laser scanning instead of traditional survey methods, TruePoint saved this client thousands of dollars in field survey work and drafting time, and provided greater detail than what would have otherwise been possible. With an accurate, comprehensive data set, plant engineers were able to complete virtual interference checks, avoiding design rework costs. n In two days on site, TruePoint’s experienced project managers 3D scanned the 140,000 sq. ft. area with millimeter accuracy. 523 scans were taken with the Leica P50 and RTC 360 laser scanners. This project was scanned on the weekend to avoid disruption to production. n After proper data registration, TruePoint’s in-house modeling team built an information-rich 3D BIM model for the client. TruePoint’s experienced team has optimized workflows for importing data, registration, creating deliverables, quality checks and transferring data to clients. n No as built plans existed for the facility. The plant was complex, capturing the existing spatial data of the conduit and piping in a high level of detail was important to the plant engineers. n There were silos and other pieces of large equipment that would be difficult to measure precisely using traditional or manual measuring techniques. /// GPRS LASER SCANNING SERVICES ///// 3D LASER SCANNING CASE STUDY: USING 3D LASER SCANNING FOR FACILITY DESIGN MODIFICATIONS “IT’S HARD FOR ME TO IMAGINE HOW THIS PET FOOD PACKAGING FACILITY COULD HAVE BEEN DOCUMENTED WITHOUT 3D LASER SCANNING.” TRUEPOINT PROJECT MANAGER

Power Plant Renovations Require 3D Laser Scanning

In just one day on site, GPRS was able to capture the entire existing condition of the facility, even in dense pipe runs and hard-to-reach spaces, with 2-4mm accuracy to provide the client with an accurate 3D BIM model for planning, fabrication, and clash detection
An engineering firm needed to have existing conditions of a power plant documented and modeled to plan for renovations.
An engineering firm needed to have existing conditions of a power plant documented and modeled to plan for renovations.
Problem • The client needed to accurately document the existing conditions of the plant without interruptions to the power supply • Many of the pipe runs were dense and impossible to accurately measure by hand • The client required 2-4 mm accuracy of dense piping and pipe runs throughout the facility • The client needed to guarantee that installations complied with safety regulations Solution • In one day on site, GPRS' Project Manager used the Leica RTC360 laser scanner to capture 150 laser scans, documenting existing conditions of the facility • Many of the pipe runs were dense and impossible to accurately measure by hand • GPRS generated a 3D BIM model for use in CAD software, including all civil, structural, electrical, and mechanical features, piping, and conduit 1" and larger Benefits • Due to the vast space and density of the piping, it would have been much more difficult and time consuming to accurately depict the location of pipe runs, structural features, and other details in the plant manually • The point cloud data from laser scanning was used by CAD technicians to create an intelligent 3D BIM model for planning, fabrication and clash detection • Verified measurements and virtual planning guarantee installations will comply with safety regulations • Using virtual 3D models, the firm can plan and model future developments to manage the facility without having to re-enter the site
