Task

Locate and map buried utility lines at Cross Keys Village – The Brethren Home Community to assist with O&M.

PROBLEM

  • The longtime facility director at Cross Keys Village – The Brethren Home Community had retired, taking with him his institutional knowledge of the campus’s buried infrastructure
  • The new facility director had no accurate as-builts to reference as he sought to locate a leaking water line on-site
  • A utility strike during O&M could cause service interruptions to community residents, or even endanger them or workers on-site

Solution

  • GPRS utilized a GPR scanner and EM locator to find and map the leaking water line and other nearby utilities
  • The Project Manager discovered that a cable line had been inadvertently installed through the water line, resulting in the leak
  • GPRS worked with the facility director to develop a customized SiteMap® utility mapping solution, documenting the entire campus’s buried infrastructure

Benefits

  • Cross Keys was able to only dig once to repair the leaking water line, eliminating non-revenue water loss and mitigating the risk of service interruptions for the community’s residents
  • SiteMap® data will help the facility director efficiently plan future O&M and eliminate the risk of striking buried utilities while excavating
