PROJECT APPLICATION
ASK
Task
Scan and mark underground electrical lines for a barn renovation at no cost to the charity
PROBLEM
- The contractors needed to know where the underground electrical lines were located to turn a barn space into an office area
- Their initial local utility locator cancelled the job, so they needed help immediately
- Most of the area that needed to be scanned was covered in sand, which made mark-outs difficult
Solution
- GPRS Project Managers were on site in less than 24 hours and investigated the property using Ground Penetrating Radar (GPR) and Electromagnetic (EM) locators
- They marked the area using spray paint and flags, and took plenty of photos as a failsafe against the sandy conditions
Benefits
- The scans results showed that the electrical lines crossed over on the opposite side of the property from where the contractor expected, so GPRS’ findings saved time and resources, and eliminated a potentially dangerous utility strike by providing accurate subsurface data
- The service was done in a timely manner on less than a day’s notice to keep the project timeline moving forward
